The Standing Wave · Book Three
Twelve years after the founding compact, the Thessians arrive — 800,000 years old, having survived their galaxy's death by absorbing other civilizations whole, and genuinely believing they are offering to preserve the alliance rather than end it. The Infinite War is not won with weapons. It is won by finding a frequency the Thessians have carried inside themselves, without knowing what it was, since long before this war began.
The Thessians are not villains in any simple sense. Eight hundred thousand years old, they have outlived their own galaxy by folding other civilizations into themselves — and when they arrive at the alliance built in Dark Passage and tested in Between the Stars, they mean it as an act of preservation. They do not register that the civilizations they absorb effectively stop existing.
The Infinite War closes The Standing Wave on a war that cannot be won by force, because force is exactly what the Thessians have already survived a thousand times over. The alliance's only real weapon turns out to be recognition — finding the frequency the Thessians have been unknowingly carrying since the very civilization whose completion opened this trilogy.
The concluding novel in the trilogy that began with Dark Passage and continued in Between the Stars.
The Infinite War is available now in paperback and eBook.
